Jewelry Lesson

Right-Angle Weave - Basic Bracelet
Contact Me to Schedule this Lesson
Learn right-angle weave (RAW), an off-loom bead-weaving technique.  Use round and seed beads to make a stylish bracelet with two rows of right-angle weave.

While you may not finish the bracelet during our lesson, you will definitely have a good start on it.  Before you leave, I'll make sure you know how to attach the clasp.

Lesson Fee: $50
Optional Supply Kit: $12 (or bring your own supplies)
Lesson Length: 2-1/2 hours

Lesson Size: up to 4 students

Supply List
These are the minimum quantities you need to complete a bracelet that is 7 to 7-1/2 inches long and about 5/8 inches wide.  My Supply Kits contain the largest number of the items listed below.
  • 1 - spool size D nylon beading thread  (Nymo & C-Lon are 2 of several brands available. Select a color that blends with the beads you'll be using.)
  • 150-170 - 4mm smooth or faceted round beads  (4mm is just bit larger than 1/8-inch in diameter.  In the examples, I used faceted fire-polished Czech glass beads.)
  • 125 - 11/0 seed beads (Less than 1 strand in a hank of seed beads.)
  • 1 - small clasp  (You may use a spring ring, lobster claw or toggle clasp.)
  • 1-5 - 6mm open jump rings (6mm is about 1/4 inches in diameter. These are only needed if you select a spring ring or lobster claw clasp.)
  • 1 - 1-1/2 inch head pin  (This is only needed if you select a spring ring or lobster claw clasp and want to make a decorative bead dangle.)
  • 1 - size 10 or 12 beading needle  (It's a good idea to have spare needles as occasionally they break.)

Bead Size:
All of the examples use 4mm faceted round beads and 11/0 seed beads.  You may also use slightly larger beads which will make the bracelet slightly wider and take less beads.

Color Ideas:  You may use any color combination you like; colors that contrast or colors that blend.  For example, white round beads with black seed beads, turquoise round beads with copper seed beads or green round beads and seed beads.  The Supply Kits will be available in several color combinations.

Tool List
These are the tools you'll use in class.  If you don't have them, I have ones you can use.

  • Ruler
  • Beeswax or Thread Heaven to condition your thread (optional)
  • Round-nose pliers  (Needed to open and close jump rings and to make an optional bead dangle)
  • Chain- or flat-nose pliers  (Needed to open and close jump rings and to make an optional bead dangle)
